Cristian Șofron is a theatre, television and film actor. In 1983 he graduated from the Theatre, Cinema and Television Faculty of the Ion Luca Caragiale Institute of Theatrical and Cinematic Arts, Bucharest, having studied acting in the class of Octavian Cotescu.
He made his theatre début at the age of nine and his film début at the age of ten. For more than three decades he has trodden the boards of the Nottara Theatre, to which his fame as an actor in linked thanks to the most various rôles and where he has worked with directors including Dinu Cernescu, Alexandru Darie, Mircea Cornişteanu, Dominic Dembinski, and Alexandru Dabija. He has had a prolific career in both film and television, working with directors including Sergiu Nicolaescu, Mircea Mureşan, and Nicolae Corjos.
Over the last two decades, Cristian Șofron has been the manager of the Odeon Theatre (2017-21), director of the Nicolae Bălcescu UNESCO Cultural Centre (2009-17), the artistic consultant of the Ion Luca Caragiale National University of the Theatrical and Cinematic Arts (2009-11), and general artistic director of the Constanța State Theatre (2005-07). Since 2021, he has been general managing director of the Stela Popescu Theatre, Bucharest.
In 2012 he was awarded the Prize for Lifetime Excellence by the Union of Romanian Film Authors and Producers. In 2013 the Union of Romanian Filmmakers awarded him its Lifetime Achievement Award. And in 2016, he received the Anniversary Diploma for Contributions to the Development of the Constanța State Theatre.
